Is there a way to do this on computer versions as well? When visiting my email all the next 247 "new messages" are notifications from Discord and I indeed find this quite troublesome.

    Yes, it is ridiculous.

This bullshit should be opt-in, not opt-out. Also, why the FUCK can't you turn off this fucking spam from the desktop app?

This is the most backwards logic I've ever saw outside facebook. Such notifications should be a) turned off by default and b) easily changeable through application's options menu, ideally with options to turn off notifications for individual servers, private messages(all contacts on or all contacts off should be enough)  as well as a main on/off switch for all email notifications. Being a member of a busy server and getting 100+ notifications in your mailbox is beyond ridiculous; it's outright intentional flooding.

How about you turn this off by default?

Not only should this be opt-in to start with, it should be available as an option to set it in the client. It's currently nowhere to be found except after being spammed by it over and over and clicking the link to make it stop.

I agree this is silly. There should be an option to disable e-mail notifications via the client. It shouldn't be necessary to have to do it through a link after you've already received an e-mail.

I kinda trusted you with my email Discord.

Here's a question: Since it appears that there's no way to toggle email notifications within the user interface, and the only way to turn them OFF is by clicking a link in an email, how does one turn them ON?

I turned them off when I started getting spam from discord saying that someone had mentioned ME, when in fact they weren't talking about me at all, just sending out a general broadcast @everyone. When I turned them off, I didn't realize it would turn off ALL email notification, and I've since found a way to specifically exclude notices caused by @everyone... but now, I have no idea how to get the other (legitimate) emails back again.

I almost decided to stop using discord when I opened my email and saw this spam! Who's idea was this! You should propably turn this off by default if you don't want to lose any more users because of it.

Not only does this auto-spam become very annoying after dozens of emails fill your inbox within a weeks time, the information in the emails themselves is literally useless.

I can see where I might want a notification if someone sends me a direct message and I'm afk.... but why would I need a notification telling me that other people are chatting in a chatroom?

If I want to read-up on what happened while I was gone, then I will do that from within discord.... I don't need an email telling me that people are chatting.

For security reason I deactivate HTML-mails for my mail client.

Most of the mails I got are readable in text version... your notification mail not. To find the link to switch off mail notification I need to enable HTML-view or take a look at the mail code.

Why isn't there just a checkbox at the settings: "I want to have mail notification" Yes/No
