People who haven't entered on the browser, aren't able to join my server via their phones. Is there any way to do this, or some way to go about entering a server from your phone?

I have same problem as Hadhos. This invite system is very problematic. Just let us invite them via email/username.

Is there no way to create a permanent link to the server, so that I could put the info on my guild info tab?

You can create a permanent link, by clicking on the Advanced Settings and selecting 'Never' from the 'Expire After' drop down menu.

Am I able to send an invite via the mobile app? I understand if there are challenges that prevent this, but I am trying to use it with friends on consoles who want to use their phones without turning on their pc.

Same issue as Screamin and Hadhos.. there needs to be a way someone can join without an invite.

New to Discord and I see that others are having an issue with inviting the console players to the chat servers. I may be missing something but just curious if there is a way to do that yet?

I'm having real issues while trying to adopt Discord as our main VOIP. One of the biggest is inviting through the mobile app. There does not seem to be a way to do this as of yet, I'm not sure if it is planned this way or a fix is coming soon, but an update on the issue would be great.

Same issue as Screamin, Hadhos, Galaticus etc. Is this issue going to be addressed any time soon? It's a basic feature that really should be included!

I'm seconding Aria, Screamin, Hadhos, and Galaticus. Literally wasted 20 minutes trying to get someone onto my server because I met them in a game, and wanted them to get on my chat so we could party up.

A big chunk of that 20 minutes was us realizing that we couldn't invite people by their screen name. Then I had to send the invite over email, and they wasted another chunk of time trying to accept over their iPhone, until we realized they needed to do it on the desktop. Or maybe it works on the iPhone but it wasn't obvious.

A lot of this would be made much simpler if I could invite by screen name. I

I want to qualify this by also saying I really love Discord (and I understand that it's currently in Alpha or Beta). It's the group chat app of choice for all my friends when we're gaming. Once you figure it out, it works fantastically. I think you just need to shore up the interface so that learning how to perform basic functions is clearer.

I've just installed and i'm sitting here scratching my head as there seems to be no way to find my friends within the software. VERY un-intuitive. Please add user-name search or email search and a contacts list

As a new user with friends that are new users, it seems that currently I have to create a channel then leave this software to invite friends via a text link in order that my friends can join my channel so that I can add them as friends to a list that doesn't exist. oO. I don't even know .. I cant even .. my brain hurts

Is there a way to just invite users to your server, and not per channel? I've created a couple of channels for discussion, and it looks like I need to invite each user to each channel so that they can talk there - is that correct?

You cannot accept the invite from an iPhone?

What if I want to invite people to my entire server and all of its text and voice channels? How is this done?

  • Avatar
    Cilantrelle

@Thero- Just send an invite, and they'll be able to manually access any channels they have permissions to. Simple!

@mTnes This! i just downloaded a desktop version and tried to invite my friend that was streaming on twitch it was impossible to do. Maybe i'm not understanding things but my god, that was so complicated and in the end, we never did manage to talk. why can't we simply type our friends names somewhere in a field (like instead of that mumbo jumbo server thing) and hit invite? is that so hard to create? I would have thought this to be a basic necessity for something like this. I even went and created my own server and tried to invite my friend, but that didn't work either, i had no idea how to do it and no, ur FAQ didn't help me at all on that issue.

@Tiger we have a friends list coming very soon, sorry about the hassle! If you stay tuned, you'll have a little easier of a time.

It has been some time since the first time I commented. I have successfully created two servers and invited my Warcraft friends to one and my Minecraft friends to the other. I have successfully sent an invite link via text message when that feature was added. Our previous experience was with Ventrilo, which had no contacts list, only a list of dozens of servers you'd typed individual server addresses and passwords into--something I always loathed doing. I have found the copy/pasting of a link to be easy, and thank you for adding the ability to invite via the Android app so I can invite those playing on consoles.

What about a guests list? If someone joins my server via Instant Invite they don't appear on the list. When I check the channel or server settings I can see them. Wouldn't it be easier to have it so we can easily assign them roles? Or can you do that already?

  • Avatar
    Cilantrelle

@Angel You can see the entire list of server users in your User Settings tab under "members" where you can also individually assign roles, though anyone who does pop in to your server should appear in the "online" list. (Provided, of course, that they're online). If you can't see them, then they're either not in your server, or if you have 100+ members, the offline user list will be hidden. We will have a per-user friends list coming soon, though!

    @Cilantrelle
That's strange. After they joined the server they don't appear in the Online list eventhough they can see the channels and stuff. Do you have to join a channel to appear?

  • Avatar
    Cilantrelle

@Angel nope. Do they show up in the members list? They only reason you wouldn't be able to see them otherwise if if you're currently viewing a channel that they don't have access to, then they won't show up.

  • Avatar
    Angel

@Cilantrelle They show up in the member list after I assigned them a role in the settings. I probably messed up something there. Will check it later, thanks!

@Angel Sounds good! Keep me updated if you find anything else out.

Whenever I create a permanent link and paste it in my guild chat, users can't join because they say the link is expired. Things only work out when I create a Readable link but it always expire after one day when it should be permanent. How can I create a Permanent Readable Link?

  • Avatar
    Cilantrelle

@Asahi check out the "instant invite advanced 101" article, that should give you more pointers!

i would like to be able to invite people with a link that never expires, but i always get informed the link is expired. i can get people in with the "human readable" work around, but those only last 30 minutes. this is a pain when you're trying to set up a community. is there currently an issue with the permanant link option?

  • Avatar
    Cilantrelle

@mighty claw unfortunately at the moment, it can be either human-readable, OR permanent, but not both. The never-expiring invites are working as intended at the moment.
