Mumble seems to work fine with games run as admin. Why can't Discord?

For those asking how to make it permanent. You can right click the shortcut, hit "Properties", select the "Compatibility" tab, and tick the "Run this program as an administrator" under settings.

This is something I used to have to do with Teamspeak as well or my push to talk wouldn't work in-game.

Can there be a way to turn this notification off if you are not connected to any voice only use the chat at that time?

This could be a deal breaker. I launched a game as an administrator, then discord popped up and said in order to use PTT I had to restart it and run it as administrator, which I have done several times but still keep getting the same message.

    Go to the following path:

    C:\Users<User Name>\AppData\Local\Discord\app-0.0.278

right-click the Discord.exe, select properties, compatibility tab and select under setting, Run this program as an administrator

This should fix the issue of not being able to use push-to-talk for any of your games running with admin privileges.

@sagaciousone appreciate the help. I did navigate to it and changed the compatibility tab settings to run as admin as you suggested but I am still stuck in the same loop.

With the latest update, you'll need to change the permissions for the new executable Discord.exe in the following directory:

    C:\Users<User Name>\AppData\Local\Discord\app-0.0.279

I had the same issue AFTER the update because the NEW executable didn't have the admin privileges set.

So, the app does recognize me launching my normal games ArmA\DCS\MWO as admin. I got through the steps listed here, while the does reconnect and I can speak with others ... The message window telling me to do these things seems to be hanging on a flag from the previous instance.

So I can't really see anything, and there is no way to clear this message box. I'll install over the top and hope that sorts it.

To fix the issue, you simply need to close the offending game instance. Start Discord as Admin, restart the game, and all is well. Although it still seems a bit sub optimal.

Ok, update on the desktop client PTT issue. I submitted a support request and I got a new program version link provided which installed seamlessly. Upon launching WoWS, there was no problem with PTT being disabled. I then tried it on Archeage and did get the issue again. Running it as admin still had the same issue. Next, I navigated to the program folder and went to the compatibility tab and checked "run as administrator" as was suggested yesterday (and did not work yesterday with the previous version) and upon rebooting the computer, the issue seems to have been solved. I will keep you posted, thanks.

Having the same issue. Running as administrator doesn't remove the permission overlay.

This is probably the worst part of Discord, dunno how they managed to fuck up something so simple.

Oh, and I believe they are hiring, put your apps in if you think you can do better, and remember every detail.

Running League of Legends in admin mode, and running Discord in admin mode. Still need to give Discord Permission to use push to talk. This is a bunch of bullshit, the problem can't be solved on my end at this point.

Wow this is really not working. I have everything related opened as a administrator and it still covers my screen ( I dont understand why it has to do that?) endlessly making me unable to have access to the chat while having the game running.

This software gives me such a alpha feel

So, this bears the worth of me typing this out. Before anyone else thumbs this down as not working or says that it requires a restart to be fixed.

I made the mistake of bemoaning the software before realizing I was completely dense. The program when the "X" in the top right is clicked minimized the program to the system tray in the bottom right. When running it in admin mode, make sure you've completely exited the program.

Upon completely exiting my problems were completely resolved.

If it persists beyond this, then please by all means leave the feedback you find necessary. [I am not a smart man and have a sneaking suspicion there might be others out there like me.]

    :)

    TL:DR
Exit the program completely by closing the program in the system tray as well, not just minimizing and then re-opening assuming it has now been launched into admin mode, when it hasn't.
Cannot find sys tray? Restart PC.
Still doesn't work? No answer from me, sorry.

I keep getting the popup that says I need to run in admin mode if I'm going to use ptt with a game running (elder scrolls). I have done this, and the app most definitely starts in admin mode but I cannot get rid of the popup so that I can control the app.

Once again, with the latest update, you'll need to change the permissions for the new executable Discord.exe in the following directory:

    C:\Users<User Name>\AppData\Local\Discord\app-0.0.280

This will allow you to use discord with your applications that require administrative access.

Silly me, forgot that the X just minimizes the program, remember to quit it completely before restarting it. This helped me.

I have no issues such as this with other gaming voicechats. Seriously, this is enough of a hassle to make me move back to using TS3.

For everyone having issues, make sure you CLOSE discord. Just pushing the x doesn't close it, it minimizes it to the task bar. go to your notification task bar bottom right, right click the discord icon and close. then re-open as admin. works just fine for me after that.
