@Jobzy Click on the server settings cog (to the right of the channel), and find the little trash icon. Or Check out https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/206343258-How-do-I-delete-a-channel-. =]

I've set server permissions for a role, and given it to one of my members, however it doesn't do anything on it's own. I have to set the channel permissions for the role instead. The only other role is @everyone, which are using the default permissions. Are the permissions granted by @everyone overriding the role permissions?

@T-major They shouldn't. As soon as you designate someone's role and adjust the permissions, the changes should take place immediately. It does depend on what your'e looking to do with the permissions, however. Some things are incapable of changing, such as disabling the "read messages" permission in the #general channel.

Hi there, just wondering if there's any way to deny read permissions for @everyone for a #general channel and create another channel which @everyone can access/read/write in?

@Mathias3012 You can click the cog on the right side of the chat window to delete a particular message. We'll have a full chat clear coming soon.
@Syconawt You can deny read message history and send messages in the #general channel, but that's all. You can do that, and then create a new channel that lets new members read in it!

After messing around with the permissions, I accidentally created a channel which can't be deleted. Is there a fix?

  • Avatar

@Mega your server owner has to go in and adjust the settings or delete it themselves. The Server owner has the ability to access the settings in any channel, regardless of permissions.

hi sooo how do we just lock a channel

  • Avatar
    Cilantrelle

@PolowBornFly you can edit individual channel settings to deny "read messages" access to the @everyone role. There's an article in the help center on it!

How can you set indivduals to only access certain channels you make?
  • Avatar
    Cilantrelle
@Datonekoepyguy once you set up a channel, go into the channel settings and only allow a specific role the "read messages" permission. Then, only assign that role to access the channels you want them to. If you want to disable the #general channel, you need to disable "read message history", since you can't block that channel from the @everyone role.

Could you please add a special role for the Server Creator? Our server creator is retiring but other admins often accidentally lock themselves out of some permissions and it is not convenient to migrate 80 people to a new server. Thanks

How do I set a private channel? I'm trying to change the read message prompt on the channel setting for some roles but it won't allow me.

How do I remove or delete a role I have setup in Server Settings?

What does Read Messages mean? I am confused on this. I have it set to where certain people can't read messages for a text channel but they can still see the messages on it.

    Hi,
    quick question about discord;
How can I personally rename friends or contacts so that regardless of them changing names and or avatar i'd still know who they are? (if this is possible at all)
    Thanks in advance!

If you are wanting to do that then I suggest setting up roles with their names or nicknames and give it no permissions. You can find out who's who by clicking the username and looking at the roles. The permissions I am saying give them none so that they can't edit it and change it to where you can't find out who's who. I believe I can see why you would want to do so as friends may pull some pranks and change their names to some weird one or to another friends name.

It may be possible in the future to have contacts on Discord. I am not an employee of Discord, just someone trying to help.

You shuld make it possible to pin a message or messages to the top of chat rooms so people dont need to scroll up and theres like rules for that one room sorta like a forum I guess

But how do you delete a role?

I set up a server for myself and my friends but whenever anyone (incl. myself) logs in, they are muted by default. I do have permissions for speak and mute/deafen on their names but I don't know why it's not working for them, meanwhile I can unmute myself.

I thought I got it working when I contacted on Twitter but I may need more clarification.

How do I disable discord starting on startup? I don't like that.

Heyo, I have a quick question.
Let's say I have the role "moderator".
This moderator has access to everything except editing server.

Now I have a channel where I BLOCK the permission @everyone read messages.

The moderators can't read it anymore.

Now I add the "moderators" role to this channel, without ticking anything.
Why does this not copy global?
they still can't access it unless I specifically tick the "read messages" on that channel for "moderators"

I have my @everyone "read messages" set to true, because I want them to access general. But on every other room I have set their access to blocked. How can I easily allow other roles access without having to flag them in every room?

@Doi: To delete a role, open server settings and go to the "roles" tab. Then scroll down to the bottom and click the trash can icon.

@Mr. Inevitability: click on the Discord icon in the system tray, and disable "launch on startup". There's a help center article for that specifically, as well.

@JB940: The channel permissions act as a per-instance override of global permissions. Basically, it's easiest to set your general permissions using global roles, than add exceptions for individual channels.

According to the change log on the blog
Android Channel Settings can now be changed by users with Manage Channel permissions instead of running to your computer like a maniac.

How is this done. I can't find the commands in the app?

  • Avatar
    Cilantrelle

@Sean W We've only got channel editing settings up to channel name & topic at the moment. Full permissions editing is coming super soon!
