I can't create any roles, the + icon acts as a search function only.

@NoveAlamak Are you the Server Owner or have a role that has the permission "Manage Roles"? If so, which I'm assuming you do, what issues exactly are you having?

My friends and I have a server that has quite a few people interacting on it. Three of us (including myself) act as the admins for the server but only the guy who created the server is able to edit permissions/roles. Are you able to make it so that more than one person can edit permissions/roles?

@tjsutton, Yes, you can. I'm not sure if you have the permission to do this, so ask the Owner to go to the Server Settings, and under the "Roles" tab, ask him to give you permissions for "Manage Roles", "Manage Channels", and "Manage Server". For specifically what you're asking, "Manage Roles" permission will allow you to edit roles under your own role.

    Hope I could help.

@Milani, Sorry if you've already figured it out, but you could set the "Speak" permission to off in those channels for @everyone.

If that doesn't work, you could go through each role and set their "Speak" permission to off.

    @iViscosity thank you!

    @tjsutton, Not a problem :)

@iViscosity: that's the very feature I'm saying doesn't function properly, right now. Setting the Speak permissions for @everyone in a channel is not currently muting them. And neither me nor anyway else has the time to manually mute and/or deafen people who move into those channels.

@Milani, You could probably go through each role and set the Speak permission to off for each of them. Remember that the "Administrator" permission will allow anyone to bypass permissions for each channel, so if you're testing on an account that has the "Administrator" permission, you will not be muted.

Testing on my ALT account, setting permissions to not speak is working just fine.

I just want to make it so that even as the admin of the server, my "afk/no-talking" channel doesn't let me say woooords.

  • Avatar

@Astralika, Make sure you set it to your "AFK CHANNEL" in your Server Settings > Overview.

@iViscosity, is there a way to make it an AFK channel without requiring an AFK timeout time? I've gotten people to move there of their own accord, and 1hr, for me, is still only half as long as I'd like for an auto-AFK timeout.

@Astralika, You could go through each role and disable the "Speak" permission in that channel. Note: Anyone with the "Administrator" permission will be able to talk regardless.

@Discord Dan How come the first click is to reject and the second is to allow? For certain roles id like an ALLOW ALL or REJECT ALL button so i dont have to click soo many times (i.e) Admin role: Allow All settings access. Plus I would think that the first click would be allowing instead of rejecting so setting up channels goes a bit quicker.

If I am assigned a role in a server and I do not have access to the roles tab in server settings, how can I find out which permissions my role has server wide?

  • Avatar
    Cilantrelle

@Mr_Migs The idea is that your initial allowances are done via server role settings, and then you do exceptions (exclusions with the red X) in channels.

@Squishy Bishy You'll need to refer to a server admin / mod. You won't be able to see what permissions your role has otherwise.

Hi there, I'm an admin of a server, but one of the roles don't seem to be able to type. Could you please tell me how to fix that? Thanks

@∈ℒأϮΣ純度, Make sure they have the "Text" permission.

If I create role ChannelMods and give them server permission to manage channels. After that I create several voice channels. Do I need to add role ChannelMods to every channel for them to be able to manage those channels, or do server permissions apply even if role is not assigned to the channel?

@Potkaniak, Unless they're explicitly denied, they should be able to.

Is it possible to hide members of specific group? If yes, how?

  • Avatar
    Cilantrelle

@Leya What kind of hiding are you referring to? Other than blocking individual members, you can't hide members from chat.

I was referring to "Member list", hiding members that are in group "VIP" for example.
So, if we have 100 members on a discord server split in various groups and there are 10 VIP members, other 90 members shouldn't be able to see those 10 members in the "Member list". That's what I was thinking. Thank you for response.

@Leya got it. While you can disable the separate role list by disabling the "Display role members separately", all users will be able to see other users' roles by clicking their profile, so not quite possible yet.

Am I missing something? I just created a server, but when I click go to server options, there is no Roles option to choose. Just overview, integration and security

  • Avatar
    Cilantrelle

@Groo That doesn't sound right. Are you sure it's a server you created? If you're still having troubles, grab a screenshot and shoot it to [email protected].

If someone joins a server, how can I automatically set them to a role? ( If it's possible? )

  • Avatar
    Cilantrelle

@Prisrae not at the moment; you'll want to enlist the help of a bot for this.

When I edit certain text channel specific permissions, some channels have the "Read Messages" permission grayed out and I can't change it for any role and I'm not sure why because I can change all the other permissions for that channel.
