@F̵̍͠urn͚a̙̒c͜ͅẻ02 The #general channel is automatically the default channel for all users, and can't be hidden from view.

I've made 1 chat channel viewable for a certain role, but those in that role are unable to see that chat channel. I've allowed permission and everything, but they still can't see it. How do I fix this???

I'm completely unable to change the Read Messages permission after I create a channel. I have no idea whether this is supposed to happen or not, but it's really frustrating. Could someone please help? Here I'm trying to deny access to a channel from my brother (everyone has their own role in my server). As you can see, the box next to Read Messages is faded out. Even when I try going to permissions for specific users, it's still faded.

@Brandon the Chihuahua You're looking into the channel permissions and have an exception for that role created, right?

@AuraOfImagination Since the #general channel is the default channel for your server, you won't be able to disable read messages for it. Any other channel you create should be able to work here though.

How do I prevent a role from accessing server settings?

@TheGuy as long as that role doesn't have the "Manage Server" permission, they won't be able to access it.

Hmm, is there a* way to set the music commands for ONE channel only? (Also adjusting the bots, though it didn't worked for me, I changed everything, even tried the first general channel settings and still nothing).

Or do we have to wait for a future update that can apply this feature to Discord?

For example I got three channels like: #offtopic #musicgoeshere #offtopic2

And I don't wanna see everyone using the music commands on #offtopic or #offtopic2 because there's a channel made exclusively for #music, so it means that the bots are using or adding music with the commands, on channels that I don't wanna allow music.

Even after I changed the settings for those bots, they can still change everything with the commands... It's really frustrating because no one even pays attention to the rules, so if I can change this my server will be less messed up.

If somebody can suggest me a method or a trick for this issue I'll be very grateful!

So, I'm having an issue with the fact that I tried to create a private voice channel for myself only (to use as a virtual "office"), but others can join it regardless. I turned off all permissions for @everyone and only gave myself access. Is there something I'm missing here? Is it because everyone else technically has roles, and I haven't turned off permissions for those roles?

Edit: I figured it out. I had given specific roles Administrator privileges, unaware that it overrode everything, including channel specific permissions.

I'm having an issue, in that I can't prevent someone from changing their nickname on my server. I have them set to a role that disables the ability to change nickname, but they're still able to change nickname. Why is this?

EDIT: My bad, I didn't realize the @everyone wasn't overridden by the custom role

@awesomeguy42 @Augmented Smurf Whew! Glad you both figured out the issue!

@Rubén 亀 To set the music commands for only one channel, you have to first give the bot all permissions, except the Administrator permission in the Roles tab in the Server Settings.

Then, you'll need to make sure to grant the "Read" permission in the channel permissions only to the specific music channel that you would like your users to use.

And finally, you'll need to remove the bot from every other text channel via channel permissions, and specifically make sure to disable the "Read"/"Read Message History" permission from all other text channels.

And if it's still not working, send a message to [email protected] with all of the details of the situation!

I've just been trying to tidy up a server I've been given admin privileges for, is there a way to remove roles from channel permissions? Asides from deleting the role entirely of course, I'm just trying to remove needless redundancy.

Edit: figured it out, in the channel permissions there's a trash can symbol, that removes a role

Hi so I am trying to create a server with my friend and wanted a music channel. it works fine with the bot joining and all but we want everybody other than the bot to be muted, for obvious reasons. I have created different permissions different than the server ones for the everyone, bot, admin and owner but myself and my friend aren't muted. Is this because we are the admin and owner roles?

@Dhrogo Khan YAY! Super happy to hear that you found it!

@Acclider Ah I see! Because you're the server owner, you override all permissions! If your friend has all permissions enabled including the "Administrator" permission, that means that they can also bypass the channel permissions! But you and your friends can mute yourselves by pressing the mic icon every time you enter the music channel!

How do I have it so that roles can't be deleted by people?

Will the screenshots ever be updated to the current version of Discord?

@RobberBot As long as you don't give the "Manage Roles" and "Administrator" permission to a user, they won't be able to delete the role!

How do I make it so roles are locked and unable to be changed by other users?

@menno a green check means that everyone in every role has a permission, a grey slash means that they have the default permissions. Lets say you set permissions for @everyone to be able to delete messages in every channel by default, but if you have a role that doesn't have that permission set by default, you can put it on the green check for a channel.

I override permissions on one of my servers that only a certain role can send messages while others can only read (sender "Read / Send messages", others "Read messages" and X-"Send messages) so it shouldnt allow everyone to send messages in that channel however, everyone can despite that the red tick "Send messages" is active. Can someone help? This is an example; Left- role that should be able to send messages

Right- role that should be only able to read messages and not send them

however everyone can still send messages.

Will there ever be a level of power, like with teamspeak? I'm a bit confused on the 3 choices that the roles have, and some roles overriding other roles.

How do you let people without roles have specific permissions?

also what does @everyone role do?

I set @everyone to not let them type unless they have the permissions

  • Avatar
    Bob Kerman

And when i set it to that, people without roles could still talk in specific channels

My only problem is how to display roles on the member list. I've tried searching it up several times, but nothing popped up for it. Help.
