Discord for Windows has always had support for dark/light themes... I'm using right now.

It would be awesome if there were more themes or if we could change the colours of certain sections just the way we want without any prepared themes.

@Intan totally! We don't have any plans for customization just yet, but it's something we can look into. Be sure to upvote at feedback.discordapp.com as well. =]

You can actually change your themes, by using better discord. It allows you to download and use themes, using .css or .theme file/app. Just go to google or youtube to find about it.

@Qsolo we don't have a poke/nudge feature just yet, but you can upvote it over at feedback.discordapp.com!

Is the font size in the chats changeable?
My display is so small I can't read the text
    Makes the app unusable.

(In the windows app CTRL + SHIFT +f only maximizes the window not the font.)

The Light theme isn't light enough I can't read, see any words or links? just greyish smudges on the left side which has a dark background & no option to change background color or font size at least that I can see :(

@Catitude You can try using the dark mode! Give that a shot and see if it helps at all. =]

@Cilantrelle thank you. I actually can't use the dark mode at all but I need the light mode to carry over on the left panel as well.

I am severely night/ dim light blind & near sighted. I have high intensity bright lighting in my work area, use over bright gamma settings in Games, Monitors & TV's, use addons to enlarge UI elements in-game, zoom web pages by at least 150%, font sizes of 16 or 18 in text documents, use large bold black fonts on paper-white background to read on my PC & paperbacks 8" from my nose.

I did install Better Discord as was suggested to someone else in another thread, but have yet to find an all light mode with options to change fonts or scale font sizes & I'm living in the middle of a fixer house overhaul & just don't have the time to learn how to do the coding myself.

@Catitude got it, thanks for the heads up! Adding better visibility options in Discord is definitely on the radar for us, don't want to keep making things difficult for you. =[

Font size would definitely be a very nice option to have. The font itself is probably fine, but it's just too small for my tastes right now.

@Twi thanks for the feedback! Will pass along to the team to check out. =]

There really needs to be an option to enlarge the font size.  What is this 4 pt  font?  It's way too small and I hate having to press my face to the screen!  Come on, it's the 21st century.  Even ancient IRC had a way to increase your font size!

Yes, PLEASE let us change the font size. Your browser will obviously let you change the font size in the Discord web app, but a lot of us would also like to do the same in the desktop app.

Can you allow us to customize our very own background?

  • Avatar
    ellolizard

@BRi7X Completely understand that! As you mentioned, currently the only option is using the browser client, but I'll also help personally forward your feedback as well to the team!

@Zlayer It may be a possibility in the future to customize your own background! It would really help us out if you voted up the idea at feedback.discordapp.com!

the ability to change the font displayed in text chat in discord's settings would be useful? whatever font is being used now supports unicode characters but they appear in the wrong size and it just looks a lil bit off...

I’ll add my voice to the chorus here of folks desperate for the ability to change the font size.

The current fixed-size is just a touch to small for my vision — and, combined with your use of low-contrast colours, results in eye-strain when I try to use the Discord app (which is otherwise quite pleasant to use).

I’ll also join the calls for the ability to adjust the colours (small text in low-contrast grey on grey looks sexy, but it is painful to try to read for those of us no longer in our twenties).

Please add a UI designer to your team who is 40+, or otherwise faces difficulties with vision, so they can relate to the sight challenges so many of us face. ♿️ 😊

@ellolizard Can you explain why font size adjustment — a seemingly very basic thing to add to apps given how prevalent it is across most of the apps I’ve seen — is still not in the desktop app?

There are many requests for it in feedback.discordapp.com (the top post has over 1200 votes of support https://feedback.discordapp.com/forums/326712-discord-dream-land/suggestions/10313193-allow-me-to-adjust-the-font-size ).

Sorry if I sound at all hostile. I just get frustrated by this sort of discrimination that comes from unawareness & neglect. (As opposed to overt / willful — I recognize it’s not intentional, but it still does harm.)

Yes this is desperately needed. I'm in my early 50's and when tired struggle to read the tiny low contrast font used in the chat area. It is a very basic feature that I am amazed was not one of the first things added.

Could it please be given some priority as it would make a world of difference to a lot of us.

@RiVeroe I'd like to see more options for the font type as well! I'd add and upvote the suggestion over at feedback.discordapp.com!

@Trest @iT |Terkoz I totally understand the frustration. We want to make Discord easier to use for you guys as well! Having an option to increase font size is not just something under consideration, but something that we plan on adding in the future! We're looking into a bigger UI infrastructure change to make accessibility options much smoother and easier to implement, however it will be added at a later date down the road as our team continues to grow and we have the resources to make it happen.
