The problem I'm having is, no matter how I create a link it never works. Everyone says "the link you gave is expired" And with this the main way you invite people to your channel Discord is not looking good as our guild's voice chat. We are spending way too much time getting new people in. We've had to try and find users and friend them and then invite, and it's a massive pain making me miss the simplicity of Team Speak (give someone the URL and password and done). You want to beat Teamspeak? Give Discord the option of simply sending someone a custom URL to my channel or fix your broken temp/perm link system.

Also, reading other comments, people mention channel links that say "expired" because people are typing them in wrong. I'm not reading links over the phone. I'm posting the permanent link on my website, or I'm emailing it to them, so when the CLICK that link it's saying expired.

Hi guys. Thanks for providing this support article. After reading it (and the previous comments and answers), I still have a few questions:

    1. Channel invites: Why does each channel have its own settings? I don't understand why this is necessary, and it seems to clutter the UI. They are all just invites for the entire server, and don't assign roles or anything else, right? An invite is an invite as long as it's not expired?

    2. Invite dialog/management: First, the current implementation of the Invite dialog is a little confusing to me because it seems like "Set this link to never expire" checkbox will automatically modify the invite, but any other changes made in the page accessed by the settings gear will require clicking "Generate a New Link". Is that correct? I want to make sure I understand it correctly.

Second, when generating a new link with the same settings, a new link is not actually generated and the time is not reset (I verified this in the view at Server Settings > User Management > Invites). This is misleading and might be the reason some people find that their invites are expired after sharing them. It would be good to address this by disabling the regenerate button if settings aren't modified. Even better: show the remaining time for an active invite in the invite dialog if the settings aren't modified.

Finally, the view at Server Settings > User Management > Invites does not currently, in any way, reflect the "Grant temporary membership" checkbox state.

    3. Invite code reuse: Invites only contain lower- and uppercase letters and Arabic numerals 0-9, right? So for temp invites with a length of 5, that would be (26 * 2 + 10)^5 = 916132832 possible unique invite codes. I am curious how often these get reused, since it seems likely there are hundreds of thousands or maybe millions of codes being generated daily. Any insight on the reuse rate?

This documentation doesn't tell me how to create an invite for someone to friend me or DM me.  Anyone have any idea how I could do either of those things?

@ShoeMaker There is not a way to create an instant invite for those things. Instant invites are only for inviting people to a server channel. You can learn more about adding friends here: https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/218344397-How-do-I-add-my-friend-to-my-friends-list-
