@Nichika, after you remove the 2 files, try restarting your comp before reinstalling.

Deleted both folders and tried to reinstall. Ran into the same issue.

    Using Windows 10 64-bit.

Tried a few things and got it working again. I'm not sure what did it exactly.

    1. Uninstall through the control panel
    2. Delete %AppData%/Discord
    3. Delete %LocalAppData%/Discord
    4. Restart PC
    5. Reinstall (Update still failed here)
    6. Ran the Update application as Administrator in %LocalAppData%/Discord (New step)
    7. Set the Discord application (%LocalAppData%/Discord/app-0.0.278) to run as Administrator and set Compatibility to Windows 8 (New step)

Guessing it's because I ran the update manually.

I have gone through all the steps Nell pointed out and it is still stuck in the update loop. Is there anything else I could do to fix this problem?

I cannot find the folders I need to delete, I search for them all over my computer and have had no luck, what can I do if I can't pull off these steps?

Discord is not showing full messages, it cuts off, and no matter how far I zoom out it still does it. Only started doing this today.

doesn't work for me. I can only chat but can't talk or be heard in group. Get prompted to download the desktop app in order to change my audio output but once i do i get the installation failed. This ended up being a waste of time. Not sure if it isn't compatible with windows 10 or what. Tried to uninstall and re do but the same issues occur

Same thing here. I'm on Windows 7 and it was great one day, broken the next. I also uninstalled and tried to reinstall, won't work. Running as administrator also does nothing. Please help, I loved the app. Sad to not have it anymore...

This only happens to me when I have the app set to run in Administrator mode on Windows 10, and only have a system restart. If I manually close the updater and then reopen the app it loads fine.

I've found a much simpler way to fix this problem. (I am on Windows 7 64 bit results may vary on different OSs) All I did was go to C:\Users(Name)\AppData\Local\Discord then ran the updater as admin then go to the app version you were on before it tried to update (0.0.280 for me) then run discord as admin too. This fixed the problem for me.

I have the same problem, stuck in the update failed loop. I did everything in these steps, set it to run as Admin, set compatibility mode, everything. It just doesn't work.

We shouldn't have these problems with this program. I'm not happy with it and I won't suggest it to my friends. I'm going back to Raidcall.

    Also having this issue

    Completely uninstalled Discord
    Deleted LocalAppData and AppData folders
    Rebooted
    Reinstalled (still didin't update)
Ran update as admin (quick flash of a blank prompt and nothing more)
Set Discord to Compatibility Mode (Windows 8)
Ran Discord as Admin, no good

Repeated all steps before trying Copatibility Mode set to Windows 7, still no change

    OS is Windows 10 64-bit

I got mine fixed. I had to update Windows, especially the Microsoft .NET Framework.

Try updating everything, including the optional updates, that was what worked for me.
