    I'd like to see a line of code number for the `code` markup :D

    You should add something like transforming links into clickable text

    Like, I put a link to twitch but I want it to appear as "Click here to go to twitch"
    so you click on it and automatically get to it

    I don't exactly understand the backticks to make a multi-line code block, can you explain it out in more detail?

    Never mind I figured it out myself.

    Spoiler Tags would definitely be appreciated.

    Please, please, PLEASE change "/me action" from just turning into an italicized "action" into "[name] action"

    I despise Skype, but my rp group won't move until we can actually play properly, and I'm not running both Skype and Discord at the same time.

    You already have one markup tag to italicize something, and you're trying to replace Skype, right? So far pretty much everything is better than Skype, but I can't move over to Discord until the functionality I use Skype for in the first place is included...

    @panpanpandy Thanks for the heads up. I'll pass it along to the team to see if we can get it implemented.

    @Cilantrelle Holy cow, I didn't expect a response, much less one this quickly! Thank you so much! It already looks like the developers are more receptive to input, so I'm looking forward to being able to make the switch soon!!

    I love markdown!

    And let me guess, there's no way to turn this shit off either?

    I'm getting really pissed off with these non-configurable changes.

    This is unnecessary, It's stupid and has no place in chat. And yet I bet the one place it has a use, these comments - it don't work. ~~Yup! I'm right, it don't work!~~

    AeSix, do note that you can put a \ before a character to escape it and cause it to not perform any additional function.

  • Avatar
    AeSix

    I shouldn't have to worry about escaping characters when I'm chatting.
    When I'm stylizing a form, coding, writing a web page - sure, but not when I'm chatting.

    I personally don't mine the markdown, however, my styling preference is BBC because it's easier to use and doesn't interfere when putting un-blocked code into chats

    for example, typing __name__ currently resorts to [u]name[/u].

    perhapse I may submit a request to select between MD and BBC in my server's settings.

    (default selection being MD of course)

    How about the default selection being "OFF"?

    Is there a way to add links yet?

    You can instal BetterDiscord for the [!s]spoiler tag.

    Well I cannot understand how to write with the 3 backticks (```)

    I tried in many ways, but it seems that it doesn't work for me

    Maybe screenshots will be helpful for the ones that don't understand like I do?

    Nevermind, I figured it out after 1 hour of trying and asking for help

    Blockcode lets you 8 colors to write in, but not in the same language:

    ```markdown
    [violet][brown][violet](teal)
    #red
    <blue brown=teal>
    ```

    ```css
    green
    ```

    ```dns
    ; grey
    ```

    Bots can write in violet by default; I don't know if there's such a programming language that lets you.

    Is there a way to get a backslash to show up at all? I'm trying to use it in the middle of my sentence, but it's disappearing because it thinks I'm trying to negate markdown text ;;;

    do a double slash: \\
    or if you want it monospaced, wrap it in backticks`\`

    Does no one else really see the issue with having to change how we chat because of some retarded formatting scheme that should NEVER have been introduced into a chat software?

    This is retarded to say the least.
    And just because I honestly feel like I'm going to get backlash for using that word correctly, here's the definition:

    re·tard
    verb
    past tense: retarded; past participle: retarded
    riˈtärd/
    1. delay or hold back in terms of progress, development, or accomplishment.
      "his progress was retarded by his limp"
      synonyms: delay, slow down, slow up, hold back, hold up, set back, postpone, put back, detain, decelerate; More
      literarystay
      "the process is retarded by bureaucratic red tape"
      antonyms: accelerate

    I think this is the wrong place to just complain about a system that you don't like that has been introduced into chat to make it easier to format many things. As someone who writes bots, being able to just add text to format my text is so much simpler than any other possible change.

    However you use it, your meaning that markdown holds back a chat program is ludicrous, considering most, if not all, of the symbols used for markdown are, in all the chat programs i've ever used, and with all the groups I've been in, used to indicate what they end up representing in markdown.

    If anything, in your attempt to show that it's a bad thing, you've solidified my enjoyment and need of markdown, even in normal, everyday usage of discord.

    Then where is the correct place?
    Hmmm? There isn't.
    So how about shutting the fuck up and letting me vent to the only god damned place I can that MIGHT fucking be seen by a motherfucking dev.

    But then, I don't really give a shit about your or your mentally maladjusted piece of shit opinion.

    You can go rot in hell like markdown.

    Oh, I'm sorry, was that not an appropriate response?  Should I have coward in fear and said "yea ma'am I understand"?  Should I be another sheep and wander away?

    I enjoy Discord, and use it considerably.  It's a damned shame that it's being ruined for gamers by programmers who have lost their ability to differentiate between useful for their audience and useful for themselves.

    Yea, I'll be honest, I've been having a change of heart recently...
    Though I do like being able to style my text...

    But MD is just plain annoying and gets in the way of almost everything...
    my preference is BBC because there's FAR less issues with having to use it, and it gets in the way of ALMOST nothing.

    Proboards hosts forums with chats which allow you to use BBC, and I will say it's MUCH more user-friendly than MD (in general) which is why I don't understand the move to MD...
    I guess people like things which are harder to use >_>

    I think I'd like to do away with MD.
    gimme mah BBC.

    another thing I want to bring up is the use of /me not doing what's expected:

    here's an image of a skype chat with /me doing what's expected:
