How do I set permissions on android?

I think I may be a bit late to this; if you're already found a solution just ignore me :P

@MG-Server-Pixie, The way to do that is simply make a channel called "announcements" or "welcome", or, just leave it in the default "general" channel and put that message in. Then, all you have to do is make an Instant Invite to that channel and when someone first joins they will automatically be taken to that channel and see the message.

@autumnfox (31 Mini TWOW Wins), As of now, I don't believe you can. Also, I don't know when it will be available but I know when I try to go to the Server Settings it says "managing server settings is coming soon!" so, maybe it won't be too long! We just have to be patient.

Hope I helped, and as I said, if you've already found your answer, you can safely ignore this message!

P.S. If you have found your problem, can you reply with a link to it to share it around?

    Nice guide.
I need to know how to link / tag a voice channel in a text channel. Like if you do # , the text channels will pop up, how do i do it for the voice channels?

  • Avatar
    Cilantrelle

@Sowad no way to do this at the moment. Voice channels aren't directly linkable, but you can generate an instant invite directly to them.

Is there a way that you can have a roll instantly given to people as soon as they join the server? Or is there a bot that does that, that you could recommend?

  • Avatar

@McHamster, I don't believe there is an Official way, but there's likely a bot that can do it.

Hi, this all sounds great but new visitors to our welcome channel don't see our posted "permanent" message because they're blocked from seeing the message history. How do I make it so they see this message? We also want them to be able to send a message to Welcome so they can ask someone to let them in. :)

Hi guys, I have an AW server and WOWS server. On AW server I see online players only and for some reason I cant see offline players anymore. On my WOWS server I can see online and offline players. How do i fix?

  • Avatar
    Cilantrelle

@Steel_Beat_13(NZ) This is normal; the offline user list will automatically disappear when it hits >100 users to keep things running smoothly.

I may have missed this, although as a former TS3 user I'm fairly certain I did not...

Anyways...I am running a gaming community that plays multiple different games. Traditionally, I have been able to assign specific users roles of different powers (member/officer) to parent/inherited channels of one or more games, thereby granting them access to those channels...

I've read this tutorial and mucked about some on my own...I have sorted out that I can make voice/text channels exclusively accessible by allowing only those tags varying access (for example....my WoW channels are accessible by @WoWMember and @WoWOfficer, but my @ArkMember and @ArkOfficer are denied).

Here is the kicker...in teamspeak, I was able to using a single set of roles (member/officer) in a nested/inherited channel structure to only provide access to those channels to the assigned members....from your linear hierarchy, I see bleed over permissions, as my WoW officer, who is above both Ark AND WoW members can assign both roles.

So I guess my question is...how do you create exclusive hierarchy roles that don't conflict/bleed over into other hierarchy roles....

    Ugh....how to even communicate this..

@conocobhar Sorry about all that- We don't quite have nested channels in Discord yet, or any of the associated permissions either. You can create multiple roles even in the hierarchy with equal permissions, and as long as they have the same permissions, they won't be able to mess with each other or add permissions that give them extra functionality.

I would like to know if there is a way to show my Welcome message in my newly made guild server. I followed the steps here on this page but everyone that has joined via welcome text channel do not see the instructions that are in said channel so they know what to do, or whom to contact in game or the steps need to be done to join as a member for the server.

If I may make some sort of suggestion about the general text channel maybe or is there not a way to customize it or something or make it useful some how without all the mumble jumble that it has now?

    Cilantrelle

@Hurtzdontit Couple of steps here. First, make sure that you've repurposed what was the #genera channel to your welcome message- that way it'll be the first thing anyone sees when they join the server. Second, suggestions are always welcome! You can always upvote them over at feedback.discordapp.com. =]

The Widget. Lets chat about that. I am trying to add this to my website. I copied the HTML Code/Pasted it in my HTML Module. It isn't showing the correct members online, nor does it show the connect button.

@Mamba The widget might need some fine tuning- shoot us an email at support@discordapp.com so we can double check and make sure everything's working right.

I'd like to organize my text channels the same way that the voice channels are organized in the example above, however I cannot use the ██  to denote text channel headings.  Is there a way to do this?

@B.Cowboy Sadly the app currently doesn't support emojis/dividers/other in text channel names, but you can definitely vote that feature up at https://feedback.discordapp.com/!

Hi, I was wondering if it's possible to create a private text chat room for members within the server that the server admin/owner cannot see, even if it would mean just being unable to view the contents of the channel. Thanks

    iViscosity

@Snuffles, The owner of any Discord will have access to every channel, however you can restrict access to any channel to any role that does not have the "Administrator" permission by editing the channel permission "Read Messages" for that role.

    Snuffles

Not exactly what I'd like to hear but good to know anyway. Thanks for your time and the quick reply!

  • Avatar
    ellolizard

@Snuffles @iVicosity is spot on! Currently if you're the server owner, you override all permissions, but you can edit the permissions for users without the "Administrator" permissions to not access the channel. On the other hand, if you would like to see changes to the system, you can vote it up at https://feedback.discordapp.com/!

So the blocks indicate a header channel? How do you create the blocks? It just says "use some special characters" without specifying anything about what they are?

  • Avatar
    TheEpicNerd014

So what is the difference between "Read Messages" and "Read Message History"? I'm not 100% sure

  • Avatar
    stingo

I think Read Messages means read current messages. Read Message History means reading message that was already in chat when you entered the channel.

  • Avatar
    TheEpicNerd014

    That's what I thought but I wasn't sure

  • Avatar
    ellolizard

@stingo You can create blocks by using a variety of different emojis such as 🁢 or 🀫, or also copy and paste the symbols here: ██  ↓

@TheEpicNer014 Yup! @stingo is spot on that Read Messages refers to reading the messages currently being sent in the server, while you'll need the Read Message History permission to read any messages that were sent before you joined the text channel!

@cilantrelle 2 years waiting for nest channels... How much time they need to do this?
