@Alex Terrieur - You will need to select the next closest region unfortunately.

Can we get a city label so we know where each voice server is located?

@MorphineBear we don't have any plans to do this- actual physical location doesn't make a huge difference since you can change pretty quickly to find the best server region.

@Kipper007 You should still get ok ping by connecting to US Central. We are looking to up our server count in the future, though!

I have a problem, on my Discord server, there isn't a option to select London, even though I live in the UK. When I change my region, that's it, I can't return it to London, so what's wrong?

@Allanbuzzy We changed (well, added) some server regions to better accommodate the EU region- Western Europe should still work well for you.

@Master x Don't have to go too crazy here, since choosing server regions happens very quickly and doesn't take any other effort! You can try switching server regions until you find the best one working for you.

@Cilantrelle The country location of the server is important, since the closest country isn't always the same as best connection, nor is the ping. I can choose multiple connections that seem to work fine now, but as it turns out some are more unstable than others. If I knew where they where located, I could search the net for best country to country stability.
Also what do you classify as West EU and Central EU, because I am kinda in the middle, so what is the closest.
Maybe 20 ping difference dosn't mean that much, but it could indicate better routes and less disconnects.

    Eks.:

I live in Denmark. Sweden is 8 km. away, but I have Better ping to Norway. Some danish have better connection to Germany, even though they live far closer to Sweden.
Netherlands seem to have better stability than Germany, but not better ping. France seem to overall have the best connection for all in DK, properly something about a grid knot.
Even though we live close to Britain, we often have the worst connection to them.

@Angry Kebab We're always looking to increase the amount of regions our servers cover, but no word there yet. Stay tuned for updates!

Two things, one is a question.

What about internationally used servers? Can you change servers for specific regions of users?

Second: Put the comment system at the top. If Discord gets more usage, people dont wanna scroll down to the bottom just to ask a question.

@Asriel Dreemurr Voice server regions are specific to a whole server- you can't change on a per channel basis. Everyone connects to a centrally-hosted server, so there's no option to split up based on users. You can create another server or use a group call and change it there though!

f i was to change my location, would it boot anyone on the discord off and i would have to reinvite them?

  • Avatar
    Cilantrelle

@Dbanker nope! It'll just change the location of the voice server (not your server. :D) on the fly; you might not even notice the slight disruption in your voice chat.

Isn't there a client-side option for international channel members to configure the best option on an individual basis?

@TSR For direct calls, you have the option of switching to different server regions yourself! However for servers, only the server owner and users with the permissions are able to switch the server region!

    Hi,

Is there any plans on the road map of discord to bring out servers in Africa Region? I am based in South Africa and know that there is a big Gaming Community here that would make use of Discord over TeamSpeak if there was a region with lower latency. At the moment, for all games that have local servers like Dota, CS:Go, Battlefield, COD and many more users use Teamspeak purely because of the minimum latency delay of +-200ms to Central Europe.

Any information on this would be great. Also if it might help to show interest in a Server in South Africa Region I can start a petition.

    Regards

@CyBeRNoX As we continue to grow, we're always keeping new server locations in mind! In the mean time, help us out and vote up your wish over at feedback.discordapp.com. This is how we prioritize which features and fixes to implement based on what our community wants.

I live in Portugal and my server is located in London, is it better if I change to Central Europe? And I noticed while messing with another server that if I change from London to somewhere else I can't change it back to London, why is that?

@Smile I'd test both and check which one works better for you in the voice channel! Also, you should be able to change it back! If it's not working, try logging out, restarting your device completely, and then logging back in!

@Balaju use the US East server region area.
