My discord appdata file does not contain a update.exe file

Same as Kioni - there is no update.exe in the discord folder, even with all hidden files visible. Is it not possible to have a simple Settings/Options menu where you can disable auto-update?

my discord update is in the local app data folder will it still work?

I agree with Omanoctoa. It would be helpful to have a simpler option/setting so that i dont have to look through all my files and just to make it easier.

it does and doesn't work for me..... I delete update.exe and can no longer run discord as admin which I need for overlay to work

interesting, if I decide to forgo the overlay and turn off run as admin, it no longer gets stuck in an endless update loop when I first boot my computer

Why don't you explain what "appdata folder" means?? At this writing, Discord is updated by a program called Squirrel.exe, which downloads and installs the updated application, then deletes the existing installation and copies all of the updated files to their location. Microsoft should have their head examined for recommending that .NET applications be installed in the "appdata" file tree instead of the Program Files folder appropriate to whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit. The way that Discord is installed makes it difficult to run *securely*. Evidently your wet-behind-the-ears development people just don't get it. As it is installed now, every hacker on the planet that can gain access to the user's computer can find and corrupt Discord to gain access to the Internet.

These steps did not work for me.  I have been fighting Discord for 3 days now and cannot get it to work.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled several times, followed the steps above, ran as admin, ran in win 7 and 8 compatibility and it still fails to update.  Could we please get some help with this issue?

It seems like the main build is broken. Use the Public test Build. That's what worked for me.

I just bypassed the update, I deleted the shortcut and the update1.exe , went into the app-0.0.291 folder, and just started up discord.exe.

It stutters for me on the "checking for updates" startup, then it goes into the loop. both on the normal and PTB

Ok guys , so if the tutorial from above didnt worked , try this :D

Step 1 : Right-click on the discord icon , press go to file location

Step 2 : There will be an app called Update , rename it into Update1

Step 3 : Run the app

    Step 4 : Run discord

Step 5 : Feel free to use discord

    P.S : Subbscribe to my youtube channel : JhinDo96

I have been speaking with one of the Tech guys through email and this is the last email that was sent to me yesterday in regards to this.  This was sent after I had completed numerous steps, including those listed above.

    Hey Donielle,

I've spoken to a few engineers and lots of people are having this issue which makes me think it's on our end to fix. They're going to investigate this week to try and figure out what's going on. I apologize for the issues.

    Thanks,
    Shuu
