I think the bigger issue is the potential to essentially blacklist a user, just by this word of mouth, under the false flag of Discord admin.

I would like to see something like this being added. For me personally, the best way to respond to someone triggering such a filter would probably be via a friendly Clyde message with something like "Hold up, it looks like you tried to send a chainmail message. Discord doesn't send out important announcements this way, but you can check out the official channels at (insert appropriate links here) to stay updated. Thanks!" would probably work.

Sorry for the dumb question, but what exactly is chain mail? i have an idea of what it is, but I want to make sure.

Chain mail/spam of this sort usually refers to a copy+pasted message that gets sent from person to person (ex: a hypothetical grandma forwarding a message from a friend that sounds important but often just spreads spam/misinformation).

In this situation, Blastoise186 likely is suggesting a kind of automatic detection of a frequently encountered copy+pasted message that spreads quickly because of people worried about the contents of the message and forwarding it to all their friends. It'd be helpful on the side of Discord management if they had some way to flag messages that are pretending to be Discord admins/etc. It *does* raise privacy concerns if messages are being scanned, but perhaps it may be prudent for those people who have "Safe Direct Messaging" enabled.
