Reopening old DMs

Is there a way to reopen previously closed DMs in cases of mutual unfriending? I've been shown two ways (using the Quick Search bar and <@USER#NUMBER>) and neither of them work. A friend of mine is trying to contact someone they used to know to try and check their chatlogs, but that person has friend requests locked.

    What do you mean by mutual unfriending? And what's friend requests locked?

    My friend nuked her contact list in the throes of emotional turmoil, and the person who they want to get back in contact with has all friend requests blocked.
