Make GIF Emotes and Profile Pictures Free

We all love GIF profile pictures and emotes but the fact that you have to pay $5 monthly to use them is absurd in my opinion. I can understand the other nitro features being paid-only features but not these and plenty of other people would agree.

    actually this is one of the only methods we have to help discord to be a better app, sooo, you are asking for worse stuff to happen...

    if discord was totally free, we had to skip ads each time we want to talk, join a server, talk dms, talk in servers.
    so yeah, i still like the idea, but is a wrong good idea none the less...

    There has to be some method of monetising the platform, and limiting animated emojis and those of other guilds is an extremely effective method of doing so.

    If they had made them a premium feature after they had been free for a while, then I would have qualms, but it was never a free feature in the first place. They are great quality-of-life features and the team has recognised that by opting to monetise them as part of their addition. The free product has not lost anything, and the incentive to subscribe has been increased.

    TL;DR They are part of Nitro specifically because we all love them and they knew they would be a hit.

    they have it so that the animated pfp's are for nitro users only for a reason, the reason is that way they get sales from the nitro since that is what people want nitro for the most

    Honestly, I don't really know. I'd be willing to pay 5 dollars a month (which is around 2 coffees) for something that has core features that stay free forever (well, at least, in the predictable future). I think animated profiles are just more of a "ILY Discord, I'll give you my money for all that you've done. Thanks for the extra benefits!" type of thing. Their core features will probably be free, for a while. Which is what keeps me using Discord instead of Teamspeak or Skype.

    É exatamente por isso que estamos tentando fazer com que o Discord libere gifs no perfil meu caro. Como ele é o único aplicativo que bate-papo que lhe possibilita usar gif no perfil, se fosse grátis, bombaria o número de donwloads. Nós estamos visando essa votação nos mais pobres, e no futuro do Discord.  @Schmidt

    Having a gif in your profile picture was not originally a feature provided by discord as far as I can remember. It was added as a bonus with Nitro, and isn't really a big deal. It isn't any different than having a badge next to your name that says "I support the creators" & a lot of people who do have nitro don't even bother using it most of the time, myself included. It doesn't impact the usability of the software in any way, it is just a bonus for nitro supporters, so there is no reason to change it to a free feature.

    E sem contar que 5 dólares não são nada lá, mas aqui é muito dinheiro, e ainda mais com o aumento do mesmo fica inviável pra nós da comunidade br realizar a compra

    I disagree, i think it should remain a paid for feature, speaking as someone who uses discord a lot im glad they are able to charge a reasonable price for some extra features while still providing a solid free service.
