Can you be more specific? Can you explain how you mute a channel?

On a computer you right-click the channel and select "Mute #channelname", but that only does it for you. I would like the option to mute a channel for all the members of the server added to the Edit Channel menu accessible by the owner. Does that make sense?

I have to agree, I'd love to default mute a channel so I don't upset any users, even briefly. It just takes away an uncomfortable/awkward middle step.

Completely agree. I have just added "owo Bot" to my server so some of my friends can play with it. However every time they post something and the bot reply, the notification explodes. For 200+ people this can be annoying. I muted the channel, but it works for me alone. It would be nice to have an option to mute for all members.

I agree, my server has 3 channels that are incredibly bot-heavy and full of messages completely irrelevant to other users. Now, the majority of my playerbase has muted my server, and more every day.

Yes, 100%! I literally spam people with my music bot every day and I would love to not have to tell everyone individually to mute it.

I have users who are not super discord (or computer) savvy and would like them to not get flooded with bot messages by default and drive them off the platform :/

This is a really important missing feature.

I'd love this as well.  I think it's a really common use case to have bot channels that are muted by default, but can be unmuted by people who are interested.

Yes! That could be very useful (and users can have an option to unmute)

@SARAH - there are setting to prevent people from posting in certain channels, that's not what this issue is about. The idea is that newbies may get discouraged by the spammy/bot channels and admins want a way to prevent that before a person joins.

i *believe* there is a way to do this, I had to try to figure it out today for pokecord. If you are a mod for the server, go to the server notification settings, go to notification overrides, and select the channel you wish to be muted. there is an option to select all, mentions, nothing, mute. select mute, and it should mute the channel automatically for all members of the server if I understand it correctly. Idk I just tried this and asked others to let me know if it worked for them, so I'm assuming this is the function you were looking for

@souschefnug - these settings exist regardless of if you are an admin or not, so they are for sure only for your personal account

We need this so bad. If you have any channels that get a lot of posts such as live voice channels, introductions, bots or offtopic, they all spam the heck out of users. Most people mute most servers they join, so what even is the point of notifications?

I need to ability to control which channels are sending notifications so my users don't just mute us instantly.

I think this would be a great feature. I agree having the power to mute message heavy bot or game channels would help in retaining users and preventing them from silencing the whole server. Also helps cater to the not as discord savvy

Just make it so that normal users don't have access to the channels that the bots spam messages to . On my server, I have various bots that only people of different levels of access can use. For example, my music bot will ignore any messages posted in the #general channel - this feature is only available to registered users of my community, and to use the music bot they make a post in the #musicrequest channel (where the bot DOES listen for messages).

Other of my bots have various moderator level abilities, so I created a channel that only real moderators can post in, so "normal" users won't see any output from the bots.

In other words, I believe if you configure your channel permissions correctly, you won't need this feature?

@digital.$Nick - I don't see how this solves the problem where some people want to interact with the bot and others at the same permission level don't. We have game bots on our server and not everyone wants to use them.

@digital.$Nick that makes no sense, I want everyone to be able to see and use this channel, but its a command channel so most people don't like constantly getting pinged by it so they mute it, but if you make a new commands channel, a bunch of people will get annoyed they are getting pinged again, becuase they didn't mute it yet and that annoys them, it would be easier to just let people unmute a channel honestly since everyone will just mute the channel or the whole server once they start getting annoying dings

I fully support this, and can't say enough how much this needs to be a thing for someone who is a admin on mutiple different discords for different purposes, I can say this would be so useful, because not everyone is there for the same reason, and I don't weeant someone to mute the whole discord server, just becuase they are getting dinged by a commands text channel thats just stupid

    Isn't @souschefnug right?

Click (Server Name) > Notification Settings, you'll see this window:

You can set the notification behaviour of every individual channel or even mute the entire server if you want. This seems like the exact thing everyone is looking for? No?

@dewie no, this is about server administrators muting a channel for all users. That setting is for users to mute a server for themselves. We want to be able to change the default to muted for specific channels.

@skeddles ah I see, thought that would set it the same for everyone. They should definitely add this.
